THE MEN BEHIND THE BRUSH

His full name is FERNANDO NARANJO ESPINOZA.

Allow me to tell you about the men who live inside Fernando Naranjo.
​
I know one NARANJO who has been designing houses since 1984, he is an architect.
​
Another NARANJO—the one who reads comics and great books—decided to write… science fiction and detective stories.
​
There is yet another NARANJO who has been painting since the age of fourteen, although it was not until 1991 that he committed himself to pursuing it professionally.
As one might imagine, his pictorial expression is colored by all of these parallel pursuits: within his paintings we find literary, historical, and political references; technical concerns related to color and light, whether in the skin of a nude figure, a sunset, or the morphology of vegetation; there is also a confident use of perspective and a curious tendency to grant deeper dimensions to what we usually accept as ordinary.
There are still more NARANJOS: one enjoys teaching; another likes debating and gives lectures on pre-Columbian cultures; there was one who wrote and illustrated a couple of comics that were never published; I even knew another who directed part of his State cultural initiatives for several years.

Since in all these activities he has distinguished himself through the passion he brings to everything he does, he has gradually accumulated recognitions, awards, and other honors that have remained largely undisclosed.
